You're under my skin I'm in over my head Been on the water so long I don't believe that there's land I've always followed your directions Made your plans my own plans So now if we are drowning I will swim ‘til I can't We're going down, we're going down Ship is in the water, Ship longs for the shore, Ship searches for the lighthouse, There's no light anymore The water is cold, everyone is scared, We're all looking to you captain But you're still not prepared We're going down, we're going down Maybe after the drowning We'll go somewhere warm Find shelter in the darkness, Quiet in the storm Oh Captain, my captain, You have steered the ship wrong But I'll ride it down with you, That's what I've always done Nobody knows how much I care for you Nobody knows what this love of mine can do This love can part waters This love withstands storms This love is the brightness calling you back to shore We're going down, we're going down

Aspartame 03:00
Wish I knew you long ago We fell fast it happened slow You're like nothing I've ever known A flower growing where weeds were sewn No I never ever ever in my whole damn life Been with someone who feels so right Been with someone who puts me first Love's a lesson takes time to learn And I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait a life to learn My old love was just aspartame Words like sugar, the whole thing fake You and he are not the same The honey on your lips has the sweetest taste And I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait a life to try Yes, I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait a life for you I have got my mind all made I have got my anchor laid You're like nothing I've ever known A flower growing where weeds were sewn And I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait a life for you Yes, I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait a life for you Well I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait a life for you

I've got a fire, if you've got a match We could light it I've got a book, if you've got a pen We could write it Maybe I don't know how to start, But something tells me the best part Is trying to figure it out Trying to figure it out I found a road, if you've got a car We could drive it Throw out the map Our destination undecided Maybe the end isn't clear, Maybe we'll stall, have to stay somewhere But I'm sure we could figure it out Together we'd figure it out I've got a love, you've got a heart We should try it I've had my fill of playing it safe, Living quiet Maybe this wasn't the plan, Maybe we'll fall and get hurt again But I still say we figure it out Let's try to figure it out I still say let's figure it out Let's try to figure it out

Told me to come in from the cold Take off my coat and make myself warm So many miles, nothing's the same You changed the lock, I changed my name But I wasn't here, I wasn't here I was still there cutting my teeth on the heart of old winter Cold like I was made only of bone We built a fire as if it were a home And as you forgot what you had forgotten Oh, I started to warm with my hand in your pocket But you weren't here, you weren't here You were still there straining to hear The footfalls of others So you bide your time while I save up mine We'll see who's best come the other side Oh I wasn't here I wasn't here I wasn't here I wasn't here I wasn't here I wasn't here I wasn't here I wasn't here I was still there I was still there But I wasn't here
5.
I'm choosing the life I lead I'm deciding what's right for me I'm spending some time in your town I'm not easy to please You just please me easily I'm tracing the shape of your body I'm charting a map of your land I'm leaving a trail that will guide me Before I am lost I am lost I'm rewriting my history I'm relearning my anatomy I'm redefining what matters to me I'm not easy to please You just please me easily

The weather ain't been right this year Rain's been falling just like tears As if the sky knew what was coming Long before it came The sun no longer wants to shine Says, "Keep it grey, that's what I like." It's easier to hide away in troubled times I would like to hear a symphony Music played instinctively Performing out a song no one has heard But had to play People taking to the streets, Unable to find words to speak Form a choir, singing songs, Send you joyfully back home There are no words to say Words get in the way Of the magic and the mystery Unfolding past what eyes can see There are some things Science does not answer All the spaces that you used to fill Now hanging untouched in the air We were so used to what was freely given What we could have without permission Winter will be long I know Frozen months of ice and snow No promise of a coming spring Will warm us with its thoughts Summer's sun will have long been gone Forgotten in a cold hard fall But we'll look out our windows saying, "It's still coming!" I would like to think the soul sails on Long after its ship is gone Columbus heading for the sea, A new world to explore No compass and no map in hand, No course to lay, no master plan Set yourself, and let the wind Take you joyfully back home There are no words to say Words get in the way Of the magic and the mystery Unfolding past what eyes can see There are some things Science does not answer All the spaces that you used to fill Now hanging untouched in the air We were so used to what was freely given What we could have without permission

There are some things sure to break Days and bones and glass and waves And this small thing now yours to take Be gentle with my heart Many, many years ago I thought that it could not be torn But now I'm old enough to know Be gentle with my heart The world has been an unsafe place Where tenderness was met with hate Now in a very fragile state Be gentle with my heart And if my eyes are full of tears Help me still my life learned fears Learned in all my prior years Be gentle with my heart Damaged in my life of old It became just mine to hold I find myself now letting go Be gentle with my heart There are some things sure to break Days and bones and glass and waves And this small thing now yours to take Be gentle with my heart
8.
You came upon me As winter was turning Spring bursting out at the seams You said "Mrs. Montgomery, Who's your lovely daughter?" But you were too broken to keep All things being equal, We'd never be parted We'd dive in carelessly But as it is standing, You've already thrown your hand in And all that remains is debris I could have loved you better, But that don't mean anything I could see right through to her Starling song upon you No matter what you said to me A girl learns to know when someone's Given up the ghost Before she starts falling I could have loved you better, But that don't mean anything Wish I'd a knew ya, Before she got to ya I bet you were something to see A man of conviction, Who loved without condition A man who wore his heart on his sleeve I could have loved you better, But hey now what does that mean? I could have loved you better, But that don't mean anything
9.
When you loved me, Never worried your heart wasn't it Had no reason to think you would quit If things got hard Now it's a sad state of affairs I went all in for nothing Though my house was full, you got me Straight and a flush, yeah you left me With nothing to hold When you loved me, Carried it with me like a blanket Kept me warm at night, protected, Safe in your arms Now it's a sad state of affairs You bought the farm for someone You didn't even know, yeah you took her Gave her our home, and you left me With no place of my own And I didn't know what I was losing Didn't know that it could be lost I didn't know you didn't feel it, The way that I thought Maybe I should have known that something Should have known something wasn't right But you never told me, You never showed me So how could I? When you loved me, There was no ending to our beginning I lived it all as if I had some new thing That would never get old Now it's a sad state of affairs Me wanting more And you've got nothing Nothing more to give I remember, while you forget There was a time When you loved me

When Alice turned twenty, Thought we'd move to the country 'Til she said she'd rather be a buccaneer So I bought us a boat and said, "Honey, let's float." She tired of sailing that same year We were young and in love, I said, "Whatever you want, It's yours to take if you dare." My Alice, she smiled, and then she said goodbye She said, "I'm going to take it all and there's no room for you there." Oh Alice, oh Alice, to the moon with you Alice Why did you have to go? Was it your dreams or was it money Did I stop being funny? The thing about Alice is, you just never know I followed her smile in the New York Times I couldn't help but be drawn to her face She became someone's wife, But she was larger than life She left him crying out her name Then stopped by to recover, She said, "I missed you old lover." But when I asked if she'd stay for a while She would only say, "We'll see." That's when I knew she would leave So I took all I could for that time Oh Alice, oh Alice, to the moon with you Alice Why did you have to go? Was it your dreams or was it money Did I stop being funny? The thing about Alice is, it's better not to know Wouldn't surprise me to hear That she's heading for the stars Even the world can't tie a girl like her down If I do hear one day that she's going into space I'll send a warning to that man up in the moon If he's a doubter, I'll say, "You've never lived without her. Once you've had a little, you only want more." I'll say, "You may know about the skies, but let me tell you about goodbyes, And the thing about Alice is, you wish she would stay." Oh Alice, oh Alice, to the moon with you Alice Why did you have to go? Was it your dreams or was it money Did I stop being funny? The thing about Alice is, you just never know The thing about Alice is, I still miss her so The thing about Alice is, it's better not to know

about

Singer/songwriter Jessica Heine's dynamic voice shakes rooms. Yet on her third album, Goodbye Party, her power is tampered by loss. With new fragility, she opens up about her personal grief, threading gossamer cords between her painful divorce, the untimely death of her nephew, the loss of her grandmother and the regrowth born in the aftermath of these losses.

Amongst the songs, dreams are celebrated and mourned. Dreams of the future float away and new dreams surface in their place.

Her own guitar work is primarily supported by a full band consisting of piano, mandolin, bass and drums. On the title track, "Goodbye Party," textured backing vocals offer a hand to their sinking friend.

Heine's voice may not quake the room in Goodbye Party, but she harnesses powers that shake the soul much deeper. You're left seeing the buds of new life poking through the ashes scattered on the ground, knowing that they, like these songs, will bloom beautifully.

Produced by Peter Stone of 100 mile house.
